β’ ππΎ Fixed an issue where feeds that report back as a normal "HTML" page, but actually contained an RSS feed, didn't get recognised (which should be the correct behaviour). Well, no more β now even those devious hidden feeds should make their way. β’ ππΎ Fixed an issue where posts on some feeds that didn't have "date_published" data wouldn't show any date and would all show at once at the top of your feed. It'll now fallback to using the date the post was added on the server if it can't find the data.
β’ π Fixed an issue with showing a subscribe error when trying to add a feed when you're below the 10 feed threshold. β’ π€·ββοΈ Monitoring issues with our payment provider...
Soft launch
I've decided to just get on with it and finally release Sublime Feed. Hopefully for some of you it will stick and you will find a more calmer approach to reading your feeds. I'm calling this a soft launch because there is still much for me to do, however I wanted to get this just out there β it's been over 6 months since I first sat down (6th of May) and started the project (after launching Scribbles). Granted, I took summer off. At the beginning of the project I wrote a little introduction of what it is, and I...
Thinking about pricing
I'm at the point where I need to finally nail in that pricing for launching hopefully next week at some stage, and I'm a little conflicted. So if you're reading, please let me know what you think. During development I had a no limits on the amount of feeds you can have. The initial plan was to allow for 10 for free β however I am conflicted if I even should offer something for free. Sublime Feed is incredibly niche, yet incredibly cool β I think it's a much better way to consume your content without wanting to scratch your...
β’ πΎ Added support for exporting your feed subscriptions to OPML. Go to your account page and find the "Export Subscriptions (OPML)" link to download it. β’ π Fixed an issue with opening feed URLs that could redirect you to another page. β’ π Fixed an issue where a feed would fail to download when first subscribing and where it would throw an application error instead of letting you nicely.
β’ πΎ Added a "show all posts" link for feeds where you hide posts where no title is present. That means your feed is as normal, but you can always read everything if you so wanted for that particular subscription. Better than toggling the option for when you're interested in reading a little more. β’ π§Ή Tweaked the sizing of the logo every so slightly, which should also make it nicer if you have it "installed" as a web app on your device. I might further tweak this.
Howdy, sorry for the incredibly brief downtime just now. Hopefully it was just for a second or so. In preparation of launching I moved the project to a dedicated server so that it can grow and not cause any issues with the server it shared (it was sharing with Scribbles). Hopefully everything came across A-OK. Please let me know if you see any issues with your account.
β’ πΎπ§Ήπ Tweaked the way you can sort your pinned feeds. Now you have to hover over it, which will reveal a drag bar, and you can move it from there. Previously the whole section would trigger a drag which didn't work so well on touch devices. I prefer the way this works. β’ πΎ Tweaked some font sizes.
β’ πΎ When using Sublime Feed as an installed web app (Progressive Web App/PWA) there is now a back button on the reader mode to take you back to the previous screen. You can always swipe back to go back also. In addition to that, there is also a refresh button on the main feed page that will reload the feed page for you β sometimes it feels it takes too long for the PWA to update if it comes back to the same screen (I kinda like that though, but let's see). β’ π Tweaked a couple of things...
β’ π Fixed an issue where a favicon of some feeds would throw an error message. Hopefully this will solve it for most.
β’ πΎ Pinned feeds are now sortable. Just drag and drop to set the new position. β’ πΎ When viewing a feed it'll now also display the favicon, if it has one, above the title. β’ π Fixed an issue that would cause long loading times on a new feed that has a lot of images across many posts. β’ π Fixed an issue that would cause an error where an image was loaded without the correct URL. β’ π οΈ Tweaked the way images are cached and displayed so not to cause huge CPU spikes.
β’ π Favicons are now automatically fetched and displayed in your subscription list and also post list. I might tweak this a little, however it seems to be working great so far.
β’ πΒ Posts that contain images will now show the first of these in the post preview similar to the Scribbles Explore section. Sublime Feed will try and download and cache that image, so that it doesn't use the full image when loading it β however it will always fallback to using the original if there are any problems. Images for posts that have already been downloaded and that are no longer part of the feed from the site will not use the cached image. This is still in testing, so you should expect some changes... however it's looking nice...
β’ πΎ Tweaked the layout and spacing of post items in your reading list. Should be a little bit more snug and fitting. Also tweaked the way the reader mode button appears β it'll show when you hover over the item (it'll show when you're on a small screen no matter). β’ π€ Just recycling some news about reader mode that I managed to add on Saturday during a 1.5 hour coding session. I'll get a video uploaded soon and a proper announcement post about it. β’ π I can't catch rockets, however Sublime Feed has been running smoothly for...
β’ π Added an experimental reader mode, you can use the π icon next to the timestamp to open it, or there is an option, on a per feed basis, to always open in reader mode. It'll open in a new tab. Did I mention it's experimental? β’ πΎ Tweaked the display of some of the info on a subscription. β’ πΎ Added a keyboard shortcut of "e" when you're on a feed/subscription page that will open the edit page. β’ π§Ή Added an email link and a link to the updates blog (this one) to the account settings page.
